The non-attendance of the Georgian Government at the international conference Glory to Ukraine on Monday was not unexpected, but it is a good test of the values of the Government – the founder of Democracy Defenders NGO, Giorgi Mshvenieradze, told Front News on Tuesday.
“A very important international conference is being held in Georgia, the political elite of the West, experts, former diplomats, who are interested in the fate of the Caucasus and Georgia, are gathered in Georgia. This is a kind of moral support for the people who are fighting for democracy and legal state in Georgia. It is also logical for government officials not to come and attend such an event, because the Georgian government today is completely against what Western values represent. There was no surprise, but it is a good test to see what values the Government carries,” Mshvenieradze said.
According to him, the absence also showed how the Government intended to implement the 12-point recommendations set by the European Union for Georgia’s membership candidate status.
