Georgian Gov’t expands healthcare, social aid programmes

The Georgian Government on Monday announced an expansion of its healthcare and social assistance programmes  starting from January 15, saying beneficiaries with chronic conditions, including glaucoma, will benefit from fully funded medication throughout the year. 

This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on individuals with chronic cardiovascular, pulmonary, thyroid diseases, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s, and epilepsy, providing year-round full financing for necessary medications, the Government press office said. 

The enhancements extend to socially vulnerable groups, encompassing individuals with a rating score under 100,000, pensioners, armed forces veterans, disabled persons (including children), and residents of villages near the Administrative Boundary Line with the Russian-occupied regions. 

An increase in social aid packages has been announced for severely disabled individuals and disabled children. The financial assistance for these categories will see a ₾50 ($19) rise, climbing from ₾340 ($125) to ₾390 ($143). 

Moreover, the social aid for other categories of disabled persons will see a ₾20 ($8) increment, raising the social package for individuals with significant disabilities from ₾175 ($64) to ₾195 ($71). The total budget allocated for these adjustments amounts to approximately ₾46 million ($17 million), with an estimated 123,000 recipients set to benefit from these measures.
