Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Wednesday announced that 26 players who were called up for the final matches for the UEFA Euro 2024 would  be awarded the Order of Honor, alongside the entire coaching staff and leadership of the federation.

This decision was made during a government meeting where Kobakhidze emphasized the deserving nature of these individuals and the significance of recognizing their contributions to the nation.

“Yesterday, in conjunction with the chairman of the parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, we collectively decided to confer the Order of Honor upon the members of our esteemed team, encompassing the 26 players who were called up for the final matches. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each recipient of the Order of Honor. Furthermore, the coaching staff and leadership of the federation will be nominated for the Order of Merit. These individuals exemplify remarkable dedication and this recognition signifies the least appreciation they deserve from our nation and the state. Once again, I extend my congratulations to our players, the national team, and the federation. I am confident that our journey will be marked by triumphs and successes, and I express my sincerest wishes for our national team’s success at the upcoming European Championship,” stated Kobakhidze.

In a historic moment, Georgia’s national football team secured its inaugural spot in a major football tournament by triumphing over Greece in the playoff final of the UEFA Euro 2024. Coached by Willy Sagnol, the team clinched victory in a tense penalty shootout, prevailing 4-2 at the Dinamo Arena stadium in Tbilisi on Tuesday.
