Georgian law enforcement seize more than 5 kg illegal gold jewelry

The investigative service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, along with the customs department of the Revenue Service, have arrested an individual involved in smuggling of over five kilograms of gold jewelry valued at 535,000 GEL. 

During the investigation, it was revealed the accused had utilized a hidden compartment in a bus to transport a large quantity of undeclared precious metal jewelry into Georgia through the Sarpi customs checkpoint.

The crime is punishable by five to seven years in prison.
