Georgian defence minister Juansher Burchuladze on Thursday said the Georgian Dream authorities were ensuring “maximum support” for Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia considering the presence of the latter’s troops on its Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions.

He stressed “everyone”, including the country’s citizens and the international community, would understand Georgia’s presence in a “different situation”.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly emergency session over Ukraine on Wednesday, foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili also highlighted his country’s support for Ukraine “in all international platforms” and the “large-scale” humanitarian aid since the launch of hostilities last year.

Emphasizing the importance of peace, the official stressed his country would vote for the UNGA resolution in support of Ukraine.
