Georgian top officials and the country’s Foreign Ministry have stated they are “shocked” by horrible atrocities in the Ukrainian town of Bucha.

On Sunday Ukraine accused Russian forces of carrying out a “massacre” in the town after reclaiming control of the whole Kyiv region and liberating towns from Russian troops.

The images from the Bucha, which is located 37 km (23 miles) northwest of Kyiv’s city centre, went viral yesterday, reflecting killed civilians on the streets and other horrific scenes.

“It is tough imagining a world where the Bucha massacre exists. But it is here. We live in it. The Georgian past means that we know what Bucha represents – crime against humanity, wound that takes too long to heal The  Ukrainian resistance will not be defeated. But this will never be forgotten,” President Salome Zourabichvili has tweeted.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote that he is “shocked by horrible atrocities in Bucha  and other places of Ukraine.

“This Reminded me of brutal crimes against peaceful civilians in Abkhazia in the early 1990s and the Tskhinvali region in 2008. It must end, perpetrators must be brought to justice,” Papuashvili said.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned Bucha’s massacre, saying it was inhumanity directed against innocent civilians.

“We are devastated by the scenes of brutal atrocities. All those involved in these war crimes must bear responsibility! Our heartfelt condolences to Ukrainian people,” said the Foreign Ministry.

Moscow has dismissed allegations.
