Georgian officials on Tuesday welcomed the visit of David O’Sullivan, the EU Sanctions Envoy, James O’Brien, the Head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination in the Biden administration, and Kumar Iyer, the Director General for Economics, Science and Technology at the UK Foreign Office, as “important for coordination”, amid Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian parliament speaker, said the meeting with the officials “once again confirmed none of sanctions imposed on Russia” had been evaded with the use of the country’s territory or its financial institutions since the launch of conflict last year.
Prime minister Irakli Garibashvili reiterated his office’s desire for close cooperation with foreign partners in relation to the sanctions, as well as the “effective work” of domestic agencies, the government administration said.
The officials, whose visit aims to discuss efforts and coordination on the sanctions, will leave Georgia on Wednesday.
