Georgian Public Advocate Nino Lomjaria demands compensation for women and victims of domestic violence, strengthening of electronic surveillance and mandatory inclusion of perpetrators in the program of correction of violent behavior, Deputy Public Defender Ekaterine Skhiladze said on Monday.
She noted that Georgia lacks preventive policy towards women and domestic violence cases.
“Although the law enforcement response to women and domestic violence has increased in recent years, the problem remains that the number of murders of women has not decreased from year to year. For example, the number of attempted murders of women was 27 in 2020, when it was 31 in 2021. The number of murders in 2021 was 22, while in 2020 it stood at 24,” Skhiladze said.
She stated that although there is an electronic surveillance mechanism in the country, which involves the use of the bracelet, a few people use it.
