The Parliament of Georgia has approved a bill on Consumer Protection in a third reading with a total of 79 votes earlier today.

The new law points out the general principles for consumer protection and prohibits ‘unfair commercial practices.’

Nino Iobashvili, the Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, said the new legislation was a part of the obligations under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement.

“Adopting this law has great importance in harmonizing our legislation with the legal framework of the European Union,” Iobashvili noted.

The Georgian National Competition Agency will be responsible for executing the law on Consumer Protection.
