The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe on Tuesday said Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili had requested its and OSCE/ODIHR recommendations for the country’s judiciary reform.
The reform is part of the 12-point conditions set by the European Commission in June to grant Georgia the European Union’s membership candidate status.
Georgia applied for EU membership in early March, following Ukraine and Moldova, shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In June the European Council granted the membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, while Georgia obtained European perspective and was given several months to address the conditions for the bloc’s candidacy.
