Georgian Parliament Speaker meets Jordanian counterpart in Geneva

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili met Faisal Akef El-Fayez, President of the Senate of Jordan on July 30 in geneva.

“Friendly meeting with Faisal Akef El-Fayez, President of the Senate of Jordan. Discussed 🇬🇪-🇯🇴 friendship & bilateral relations, including on the parliamentary level. Talked about the situation in 🇬🇪’s occupied territories, as well as the developments in the Middle East. We emphasized critical importance of cooperation for helping regional peace & stability," Papuashvili wrote on X.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva.

Georgian Parliament press office informed that during the discussion, the two sides reaffirmed the strong friendship and growing cooperation between Georgia and Jordan. Papuashvili expressed gratitude for Jordan’s decision to allocate land near the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ for the construction of a Georgian Cultural Center.

Both leaders stressed the importance of strengthening interparliamentary relations, noting the success of a recent visit by a Georgian parliamentary delegation to Jordan.

Senate President El-Fayez showed interest in the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, and Papuashvili provided detailed information on the ongoing challenges there.

The conversation also covered the complex political developments in the Middle East, with both sides underlining the need for reinforcing friendly ties and promoting regional peace and stability amid ongoing tensions.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze also participated in the meeting.
