Georgian Parliament Speaker thanks EP for adopting resolution on killing of citizen by occupiers

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday extended his gratitude to the European Parliament for adopting a resolution earlier during the day, which condemned the killing of Tamaz Ginturi, the country’s national, by Russian-controlled occupation forces in central Georgia’s Gori municipality on November 6. 

 

In his social media post, the official claimed Tbilisi would continue “close consultations” with EU strictures for the letter to excerpt pressure on Russia to meet the 2008 ceasefire agreement brokered by the bloc and withdraw its troops from the central Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) and north-western Abkhazia regions. 

 

“Grateful to EP for condemning the murder of Tamaz Ginturi by Russian occupation forces and for sending a strong message in support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty”, he said. 

 

The EP resolution was backed by 495 MEPs and along with condemning the murder, it also called for the punishment of perpetrators and reaffirmed “strong support” for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
