The Georgian parliament’s European Integration Committee has drafted a resolution on Georgia’s membership to the EU in an accelerated manner, as Ukraine has already submitted the application amid hospitalities in their country.

The draft resolution is composed of 13 points and comes with the appeal to the EU and its member states to take steps for Georgia’s membership in the accelerated manner.

Georgia had plans to apply for EU membership by 2024. However, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has changed plans both for Ukraine and Georgia.

Nikoloz Samkharadze, chair of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee has stated that Georgia is receiving signals from the EU member states on the membership in an accelerated manner amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine ‘and the draft resolution is a response to these signals.’
