The Ukrainian parliament has invited Georgian colleagues to arrive in Kyiv on the anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, Tbilisi rejected the invitation, Giorgi Vashadze, the opposition MP from Strategy Agmashenebeli said on Monday.

The MP said the move was “shocking”.

The Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua has confirmed the fact.

He said the reason for the refusal was “attempts by certain Ukrainian officials to drag Georgia in the conflict, and citing imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili as a political prisoner by Kyiv.

“I think that this does not leave the space for diplomatic relations”, Zarkva said, adding that despite this, the ruling team “stands by the Ukrainian people and Georgia supports Ukraine in various international formats”.
