Georgian Patriarch Ilia II on Thursday emphasizes the “pivotal role” of family as the “cornerstone of society”, emphasizing its significance for a nation, especially a small one like Georgia.

Addressing the youth, believers, and all residents irrespective of background, the Patriarch urged unity on May 17 to honor Family Sanctity Day, despite prevailing tensions around the foreign influence bill. 

In unequivocal terms, he denounced violence and underscored the peaceful intent behind the gathering, emphasizing the preservation of Georgian heritage, traditions, and values above partisan interests.Highlighting the Church’s historical role as a unifying force, he calls upon all, particularly the clergy, to uphold this unity.
