Georgian Patriarch Ilia II has reminded emigrants that they represent the country abroad and to never harm Georgia’s image in their actions.

In his address for a forum dedicated to the Georgian diaspora on Friday, the Patriarch said that those who acted in an irregular manner abroad, harmed both themselves and the homeland.

“Each representative of the diaspora is the face of a country with an ancient, unique culture and history,” Ilia II suggested.

He stated that being abroad should not mean forgetting roots, faith and traditions.

“You receive experience, learn about local achievements in science and technology, the arts, and have the opportunity to share it with your fellow countrymen. You are able to introduce our way of life, our spiritual values, our past and present, our art to foreigners,” said the Patriarch.

He blessed emigrants and reiterated that sooner or later they would return to Georgia.
