The Georgian Patriarchate has responded to footage and images from the Ukrainian town of Bucha, following reported war crimes committed there by Russian troops, stating that “what we have seen are appalling.”
“Despite the brutal ‘laws’ of war, such gravity which we have seen is hard to imagine. It is impossible to see all this without a person being completely appalled,” the Georgian Patriarchate said in a statement released today.
The Patriarchate expresses its sorrow “over the tragedy that is happening in Ukraine.”
“We want to once again express our deep sorrow and grief over the tragedy that is taking place in the context of military aggression in Ukraine. It is especially difficult to see the killing of civilians, innocent people. We sympathize with their families, loved ones and pray for them,” said the Patriarchate, wishing peace to Ukraine and the whole world.
The international community has strongly condemned the Bucha massacre, while Russia claims it has nothing to do with the atrocities.
