Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said the country’s population had “responded to fake IRI polls” released at the end of last month with its voting for the GD candidates in Sunday’s extraordinary elections of mayors and midterm race in city councils in eight municipalities.

He claimed that winning the polls by the party representatives had demonstrated the public’s “big support” to the ruling party.

In its April 25 survey, IRI said only 19 percent of respondents supported the GD.

The poll also highlights a lack of faith in political parties. 42 percent of Georgians said no political party represented their interests. At the same time, the survey found that 78 percent believed there should be more youth in domestic politics.
