Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, has accused the French Ambassador to Georgia, Sheraz Gasri, of violating the Vienna Convention following the ambassador’s criticism of the Georgian government.

Kobakhidze condemned remarks made by the ambassador over alleged repression in Georgia, asserting that foreign diplomats “should not meddle in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.”

The PM further pointed to a “long-standing tradition” of non-interference by Tbilisi in the domestic matters of other countries, citing the case of French politician Marine Le Pen.

He argued that, despite the challenges and “a number of vices” faced by France, including the conviction of Le Pen, the country refrained from commenting on or influencing the internal affairs of other states.
