Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday leveled accusations against unspecified individuals, alleging their involvement in “surrendering 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory to Russia and sacrificing the lives of 10,000 Ukrainians” during the war.
In his press comments, the PM claimed his office’s commitment to “safeguarding the country’s sovereignty” amidst concerns of external influences and potential destabilization.
“We are constantly reminded of the Maidan, and I want to remind you what the Maidan brought to Ukraine,” said Kobakhidze and emphasized the detrimental consequences of alleged external interference in Ukraine’s affairs, noting the country’s previous trajectory toward economic growth and territorial integrity.
Kobakhidze lamented the devastation wrought by the war in Ukraine, citing the loss of thousands of lives and the occupation of “significant portions” of the country by Russia.
The PM expressed concerns over the implications of such actions, warning against the potential for similar events to unfold within Georgia. “We will do everything to prevent ‘Maidan’ and ‘Ukrainization’ in Georgia,” he declared, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining stability and sovereignty.
Addressing allegations of aligning with Russian interests, Kobakhidze implicated “certain individuals” in the betrayal of Ukraine’s interests.
“Those who spoke about ‘Maidan’ are the same people who surrendered 20 percent of Ukraine’s territories to the Russia,” he asserted. He condemned their actions, stressing the need for accountability and responsibility in the face of “such significant geopolitical challenges”.
