Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said he would sign a document later today that would allow Chinese citizens to visit the country visa free in a bid to “encourage” domestic tourism.

“We have made a decision to implement a visa-free regime for Chinese citizens. We will issue a corresponding decree. Of course, it will be important, it will be an incentive for more tourists to come to Georgia”, Garibashvili said at a weekly Government session, claiming “I want to say that Chinese tourists are considered as one of the most desirable in the world”.

He also noted the issue of adding flights to China was also being considered, without specifying when and for how long the Chinese citizens will be able to visit Georgia without a visa.

During his one-week visit to China, on July 29, Garibashvili met Chinese President Xi Jinping and signed a strategic partnership deal with the country.
