Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized on Thursday that the strategic partnership with the United States should produce “tangible results”, including visa-free travel. Speaking to the press about the significance of the country’s ties with the US, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity for concrete outcomes.
“Our objective is to ensure that this partnership translates into palpable benefits,” Kobakhidze stated. “We have extensively deliberated on potential outcomes, among which the deepening of trade relations stands as a cornerstone. A free trade agreement would be instrumental in this regard. Equally vital is the facilitation of visa-free travel. Moreover, enhancing flight connections remains a priority. Progress in these areas would serve as tangible examples of how partnership directly enhances the lives of our citizens. I am optimistic that we will make significant strides in this direction”.
The Prime Minister’s remarks follow criticism from the opposition regarding the Government’s engagement with China. Last year, Georgia signed a strategic partnership agreement with China and subsequently lifted visa requirements for Chinese residents. In reciprocation, China also lifted visa restrictions for Georgian citizens earlier this year.
