Georgian PM, EU Council president discuss Tbilisi’s accession pace

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and Irakli Kobakhidze, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Georgia, on Wednesday discussed Georgia’s EU accession prospects and pace in a Brussels meeting. 

 

The PM thanked Michel for support and noted “Georgia appreciates” his personal efforts for Georgia’s EU integration. Kobakhidze stresses his first foreign trip to the European capital “demonstrated” the Georgian   Government’s “commitment” to EU aspirations. The  Officials also discussed the current political situation in Georgia and in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia. The PM claimed he appreciated the EU’s “firm support” for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and noted the need for more “active involvement” of the bloc for the peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict. 

 

Kobakhidze highlighted the significance of the further support of the EU institutions and expressed hope for their backing of the country’s further integration. the next stages of EU accession.
