Georgian PM meets country’s new ambassador to Armenia

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday met with Giorgi Sharvashidze, the country’s new ambassador to neighborly Armenia.
The head of the government congratulated the diplomat on his new position and wished him success in his future work.
Garibashvili stressed “friendly and good-neighborly relations” with Armenia and expressed his hope the new ambassador would further strengthen existing ties.
Sharvashidze worked in different positions in the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, including as the first deputy minister.
He was also engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities. In 2016-2022, he was the rector of Tbilisi State University. In addition, from 2004 to 2013, he worked as the director of the academic support program at the Open Society Institute in Budapest.
Sharvashidze is a candidate of pedagogic sciences, a true member of the European Academy, awarded with the Order of Excellence. He is the author of monographs and scientific articles.
