Georgian PM phones Erdogan, wishes “successful conduct” of election runoff

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili ,has had a telephone conversation with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with Garibashvili congratulating him on the “successful conduct” of the first round of the presidential race this month, the success achieved in the first round, and the majority of votes won by the ruling party in the parliamentary elections. 

 

The government press office said the PM also emphasized the “personal role” of Erdogan in strengthening the Turkey-Georgia strategic partnership, as well as in the sustainable and stable development of the region by supporting joint international projects in which Turkey and Georgia are involved.

 

Garibashvili wished Erdogan to successfully conduct the second round of the presidential elections, the press office said. 

 

Erdogan received 49.4% of votes in the country’s presidential election, while his main rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had scored 44.96%, with a runoff scheduled later this month.
