Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday expressed his optimism about Ukraine achieving peace and his hopes for both countries celebrating full membership in the European Union, in comments at the Ukraine Restoration Conference in Berlin.
Kobakhidze emphasized Georgia’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction within its available resources, highlighting the “strong friendship and shared European aspirations” between the Georgian and Ukrainian nations.
“The Georgian and Ukrainian nations are united not only by similar experiences and strong friendly ties, but also by shared aspirations for European integration. We believe that the Ukrainian people will soon achieve peace and together we will celebrate our full membership in the European Union. Until then, we will continue to provide support for the restoration of Ukraine within the available resources,” said Kobakhidze.
He reiterated Georgia’s support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, underscoring the responsibility of friendly nations to aid in Ukraine’s restoration to its pre-war state.
“Ukraine is our friendly country, and the Ukrainian people are our friends. Everyone should contribute to restoring Ukraine as much as possible. This is everyone’s responsibility, especially friends like Georgia,” Kobakhidze told journalists.
He further claimed since the onset of the war, Georgia had shown solidarity with Ukraine through “strong political, diplomatic actions, and significant humanitarian aid on both bilateral and international platforms”.
“Today we gather to reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with Ukraine in these challenging times and our commitment to its speedy recovery. Georgia has expressed this solidarity through strong political and diplomatic steps and significant humanitarian aid,” Kobakhidze added.
