A self-assessment questionnaire filled out by Georgia for the EU candidate status, the progress being made by country on the path of European integration and the implemented reforms were the key topics of the meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and European Commission Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations Maros Sefcovic in Bratislava on Friday, on the sidelines of the Global Security Forum.
Garibashvili said that Georgia has already implemented 45 percent of the reforms envisaged in the EU- Georgia Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area deal, “and this process is ongoing.”
He stressed that the EU integration “is the choice not only of the Georgian government, but also the Georgian people,” and that the country would continue to implement complex reforms along this path.
During the meeting, officials discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and its impact on the security environment of the wider region, as well as the “grave humanitarian situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions.”
The PM reiterated the Georgian Government’s commitment to the policy of peaceful settlement of conflicts.
Georgian applied for EU membership on March 3 of this year.
The EU is expected to decide on the candidate status for Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in the coming months.
