Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Georgian Dream ruling party on Thursday extended their congratulations to Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II on his 91st birthday, praising his “pivotal role” in the country’s life.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, with profound respect and affection on the occasion of his 91st birthday”, the PM said.

He stressed “fortunate is the nation that is led by such a spiritual luminary. Over nearly five decades, the Patriarch’s work, marked by wisdom and love for his fellow citizens, has played a pivotal role in shaping our civil and spiritual life, fostering unity among Georgians, and upholding the highest values in society”.

“The moral exemplars, spiritual serenity, and foresight demonstrated by our patriarch in his own life serve as models not only for the Orthodox community but also for all citizens of our nation. His contributions carry forward the legacy of Georgia’s greatest sons and serve as a guiding light for future generations”, the head of the Government noted, wishing Ilia II “enduring health and longevity”.

In its message, the GD highlighted the nation was “privileged to have Ilia II as its spiritual leader. For 46 years since his enthronement, he has tirelessly dedicated himself to strengthening the spirituality and moral values of the Georgian people”.

“His invaluable contributions to the establishment of Georgia as an independent state are immeasurable. His wisdom, moral exemplars, love, and commitment to values have been instrumental in preserving the faith and identity of the Georgian nation.

“With profound respect and affection, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness on his birthday. May he continue to enjoy enduring health and lead the Church of Georgia for many more years, for the benefit of our country and its people,” the party said.
