Georgian PM tells US official Govt ready to consider partners’ legal feedback on agents’ law within veto process

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, held a meeting with James O’Brien, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, where he told the latter the Georgian authorities were ready to consider the partners’ legal feedback on the controversial foreign transparency bill within the veto process, as the President pledged to veto the legislation.
During the extensive discussion, both parties engaged in a frank dialogue concerning various aspects of Georgian-American relations, encompassing the developments within Georgia in recent years, the Government press office said.
Expressing shared concerns about these developments, both the head of government and the US assistant secretary of state deliberated on potential courses of action.
Furthermore, Kobakhidze articulated to O’Brien the necessity of enacting the “Transparency of Foreign Influence” law, reaffirming the government’s commitment to carefully considering all international partners’ legal feedback within the veto process, the press office added.
Highlighting Georgia’s “keen interest” in bolstering its partnership with the US, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of mutual endeavors and equitable relations, as stated in the provided information, the Government Administration said.
The US has several times condemned the bill as akin to the Russian law and stressed its adoption could hinder the country’s European integration.
