Georgian PM, Turkish Interior Minister discuss cooperation, regional security in Tbilisi

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili met with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey Suleyman Soylu in Tbilisi today, where the officials discussed cooperation and regional security issues amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“It was noted that Turkey has been Georgia’s one of the most trusted friends since the country gained its independence. The strategic partnership between Georgia and the Republic of Turkey is at a high level and it is important to further deepen the existing cooperation,” the Government of Georgia press office has reported.
The impact of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine on the South Caucasus region was in focus of the meeting, with both officials stressing the importance of peace and stability.
It was stated that the Georgian PM’s ‘Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative,’ with the participation of three countries in the South Caucasus region, serves the goals of regional security.
Soylu has reaffirmed his country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
