The European perspective of Georgia, the issue of granting the candidate status and the process of fulfilling the 12 conditions set by the European Commission for the country’s membership candidate status were discussed on Tuesday by the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili and Oliver Varhelyi, the European Union commissioner for neighbourhood and enlargement.  The importance of overcoming depolarization was emphasised while talking about the European perspective of Georgia at the meeting held in the Orbelian palace, the president’s press office said.

“The purpose of coming to Georgia today is to help the country in the process of its EU integration”, said Varhelyi.  He once again expressed readiness of the EU to help Georgia in “everything that would contribute to its integration into the bloc”.  The European Commissioner once again expressed the “unwavering support” of the EU to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and challenges caused by the conflict.
