Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili’s visit to Brussels on April 18 and a scheduled speech in the European Parliament as she said to promote Georgia’s EU aspirations ahead of the bloc’s decision whether to grant the country its membership candidate status has been postponed, the president’s press office said on Thursday.

Reasons behind the delay have not been identified.

In her latest parliamentary speech last month, the president slammed the ruling party for “distancing itself” from the West due to its “unreasonable and undemocratic” statements on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine topic.

She pledged to do her “utmost” to ensure the country’s European integration.
