The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office on Wednesday disclosed additional details after Radio Liberty the previous day reported a case involving the transportation of diseased embryos from Georgia to Israel.

The PoG indicated that a portion of the investigative efforts aimed at resolving this transnational crime occurred at the Donation and Surrogacy Center in Batumi, western Georgia.

“In response to a legal assistance request from the State of Israel, investigative and procedural measures were carried out at the BIRTH Center (a medical clinic specializing in artificial insemination, donation, and surrogacy) located in Batumi, as part of the investigation into a transnational crime,”it said.

Its press office highlighted that documentation and electronic data were seized from the clinic as part of the investigative process.”The international investigation remains ongoing, with continued investigative and procedural measures, including the scheduled interrogation of Georgian and Israeli citizens as witnesses,” added the statement.

The Israeli police are currently leading the investigation, which reportedly began several months ago in collaboration with the Israeli Ministry of Health, according to reports in the Israeli media.
