Public Defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria called on the public on Wednesday to join all the rallies which would be held in support of Georgia’s European integration.
Lomjaria stated that the public should use all opportunities to express support for the country’s EU membership ahead of the EU summit at the end of this month which will decide on Georgia’s candidate status.
“Now is not the time for divisions. I, on the contrary, call on the people, wherever there will be a rally demanding EU integration, we should probably go everywhere and not get tired. There might be two, three or four rallies as needed to show Europe that our choice is Europe,” Lomjaria said.
“We must do this first of all to show our government that the people are demanding the implementation of the reforms that will bring us closer to Europe,” she stated.
Two rallies are scheduled in Tbilisi this week – on June 16 and 20 prior to the summit.
The rally on June 20 is organized by the civil movement Shame.
President of Georgia Salome Zourabichviili called on them to postpone the rally and instead join the rally offered by her tomorrow in central Tbilisi.
