The Georgian Dream (GD) ruling party on Wednesday criticized US Congressman Joe Wilson, calling him one of the most severe embodiments of the so-called “Deep State,” an allegedly covert global network the party claims seeks to undermine national sovereignty and force countries into conflict.

In an official statement, the GD described Wilson as a “degraded politician with zero political culture” who is actively working to push Georgia into war under the influence of what it calls the “Global War Party.”

According to the GD, Wilson has played a central role in an effort to punish Georgia for resisting foreign pressures to escalate conflicts. The party’s statement specifically targeted his role in introducing the Megobari Act regarding Georgia, labeling it an “Enemy Act” due to its content. The GD argues that Wilson’s legislation, paired with his political maneuvering, served the agenda of the “Deep State,” which, they claim, seeks to destabilize nations and manipulate global political and economic systems.

The party accuses Wilson of furthering his own interests by receiving financial benefits linked to controversial figures, including wanted former Georgian Defence Minister David Kezerashvili, “involved in embezzling funds from European pensioners”. The GD alleged that the stolen funds were funneled to Wilson, positioning him as a key player in a network that “uses financial and political leverage to impose sanctions on countries like Georgia that defy the interests of the Deep State”.

“The money confiscated from dozens of European pensioners is used for one American pensioner – Joe Wilson,” the statement reads. “Thus, the Deep State fulfills its political task and blackmails Georgia with sanctions. Joe Wilson is one of the most severe manifestations of the Deep State, threatening us with punishment if we do not go to war.”
The GD also took issue with Wilson’s political stance, especially his lack of condemnation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s decision regarding gender identity, which it said was overwhelmingly rejected by President Donald Trump’s team. The party argued that Wilson’s failure to oppose such policies signaled his alignment with global forces that “undermine national sovereignty and traditional values”.

In addition to attacking Wilson, the GD used the opportunity to highlight the ongoing pressure placed on Georgia by international bodies like the European Union. The party reiterated its opposition to the European Parliament’s resolutions, which it claimed aimed to destabilize Georgia by demanding actions such as the repeal of laws related to LGBT propaganda and the release of political figures like former President Mikheil Saakashvili. The GD warned that these demands were part of a broader effort to force Georgia into a position of compliance with Western interests, which could ultimately lead to the country’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The GD’s statement emphasized that Georgia will not be intimidated by these external pressures. It reaffirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability, prioritizing Georgia’s national interests over the demands of foreign powers. The GD also criticized the actions of opposition groups and their foreign patrons, accusing them of working to prevent an OSCE/ODIHR delegation from observing Georgia’s recent parliamentary elections.

“The opposition and its patrons, enraged by the OSCE’s conclusions, did everything in their power to prevent the OSCE delegation from arriving in Georgia,” the GD stated.

Despite the pressure from the international community, the GD declared that Georgia’s future lay in resisting these foreign interventions and “pursuing a path of peace, dignity, and prosperity”.
The party expressed hope that Georgia would eventually join the European Union on equal terms, free from the influence of the oligarchic networks and the Deep State that they claim control much of the modern world.
