Irakli Zarkua, a Georgian Dream party MP, on Thursday called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate the recall of Peter Fischer, the German ambassador to Georgia. Zarkua criticized Fischer for allegedly exceeding his diplomatic mandate and engaging in activities beyond his competence.

“This person has his rights and duties mixed up. He is confused and lost in his competence,” said Zarkua, accusing Fischer of making inappropriate political statements. He further questioned the ambassador’s legitimacy, referencing the collapse of the German government that appointed him.

Zarkua also drew comparisons to Eastern European countries, suggesting that Georgia lags in certain economic areas, such as wine exports to Russia. “Your neighbors in Eastern Europe have overtaken Georgia, for example, in wine exports to Russia. Look at Latvia and other countries,” he added.

The MP concluded by urging the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review Fischer’s conduct, saying, “I appeal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, maybe they will take an interest in the activities of this ambassador here. I would like us to start the procedure for recalling this ambassador, because it does not correspond to the mandate with which he is here.”
