Levan Karumidze, the first deputy chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said he was “utterly disappointed” Ukraine had become the second country imposing sanctions on Georgian citizens on the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing aggression, referring to the recent decision by Kyiv to sanction the relatives of the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili and several other businesspeople.

“To my utter disappointment, Ukraine became the second country in the world to have sanctioned Georgians. Second after Russia”, Karumidze tweeted.

Bidzina Ivanishvili’s brother Aleksandre Ivanishvili, his wife Ketevan Kharaidze, aunt Ucha Mamatsashvili and her son Tite Mamatsashvili have been blacklisted in Ukraine.

Sanctions will also apply to businessmen Davit Iakobashvili, Aleksandre Japaridze and Giorgi Japaridze.

Local media has reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky had signed the relevant decree.
