The Georgian State Security Service has found an ancient coin from the period of King David the Builder from the 12th century during  an investigation into unauthorized archeological works.

The agency says that the coin is invaluable, and that the coin’s authenticity has already been evidenced by proper lab tests.

According to the tests, the original copper coin was minted by King David IV the Builder, one of the most powerful kings in Georgian history.

The coin, which is dubbed as a piece of cultural heritage, will be handed over to the Georgian National Museum for preservation and public access.

The State Security Service says that investigation is still in progress in the case and that no one has been arrested so far.
