Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, has congratulated Moldovan President Maia Sandu on her election victory, describing it as “the best news for Europe, for democracy, and a strong answer to Russia and its hybrid warfare.”
In a message posted on X on Monday, formerly Twitter, Zourabichvili said that pro-European Georgia stood in solidarity with Moldova and its resistance to Russian interference.
Moldova held its parliamentary election on the weekend, a vote seen as pivotal for the country’s geopolitical direction. The ruling pro-EU Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) secured around half the vote, winning 55 out of 101 seats and retaining a parliamentary majority. The main pro-Russian opposition, the Patriotic Electoral Bloc, took 26 seats, while several smaller parties also crossed the threshold.
