Annalena Baerbock, the German Foreign Minister, arrived in Georgia early on Friday, with deputy foreign minister Khatuna Totladze welcoming her at Tbilisi airport.

Baerbock is scheduled to meet with her Georgian counterpart, before meeting with prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and president Salome Zourabichvili.

The German official will also meet with students and the representatives of the domestic NGOs and opposition during her first official visit to the country.

Before leaving the country later on Friday, she will visit the occupation line in central Georgia, accompanied by the European Union Monitoring Mission.

Prior to her arrival Baerbock stressed she would focus on Georgia’s European integration process amid “attempts” to derail the country from its western course.
