German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for the European Union enlargement with Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova joining the bloc.

Speaking at the Charles University in Prague on Monday, Scholz said  that the EU should make decisions by the majority of the vote rather than requiring consensus on all issues, which has previously allowed individual member states to veto key decisions.

He stated that the influence of the European Union should be used more “effectively”, and that ”Europe is our future, and that future is in our hands”.

The Chancellor also spoke about Russia’s ongoing  aggression against Ukraine and stated that Russia “has always wanted to redraw boundaries with violence”, which has been “unacceptable” for Europe.

In his remarks on supporting Ukraine, Scholz said that Germany would ensure  aid for the country for “as long as it takes, this also goes for the reconstruction of the destroyed country”.

Germany has already made “significant” changes to its military policy, announcing a €100 billion increase on defense and has been sending heavy weapons to Ukraine, noted the Chancellor.
