Gigi Gigiaze, senior researcher at the Economic Policy Research Center, on Friday claimed that the ruling party, Georgian Dream, was neither interested in reversing the recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories nor officially authorized by Russia to take such action.

The former diplomat noted that Georgia’s diplomatic efforts to manage the recognition of occupied territories independently were limited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leaving Georgian Dream unable to act.

He highlighted Syria as a unique case where the party did nothing and suggested the same inaction is likely with Venezuela. “There is nothing surprising that they have done nothing in Syria; nothing surprising that they will not make any effort with Venezuela either. Clearly, this so-called government has made no progress. They are not interested in reversing recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories, and officially, they have no authority from Russia,” Gigiaze said.
