Gigi Tsereteli, a leader of the opposition party European Georgia, has warned that continued infighting within the opposition will leave it incapable of achieving change, as public frustration with the political situation continues to grow.

Tsereteli said that if the opposition remained fragmented and focused on internal disputes, it would be unable to act effectively. However, he said a significant process was now under way, as people’s patience was wearing thin.

“It is unimaginable for people to keep watching this situation for months or years. The country would start to resemble madness, because the human psyche cannot withstand so much,” Tsereteli said, adding that claims of progress in the country did not reflect reality and were clearly seen as such by the public.

He said this situation placed a heavy responsibility on the opposition, which he noted had already paid a high price. Tsereteli stressed that unity did not mean cooperation with every political group, but said that the main opposition forces were now in much better coordination and communication than before.
