Badridze also stressed the real-world impact of British and American sanctions

Diplomat Giorgi Badridze on Wednesday clarified that recent UK sanctions affecting Georgian broadcasters Imedi and POSTV were not imposed because they were Georgian media outlets, but because they were considered representatives of Russian interests.

Speaking to journalists, Badridze said the outlets were now classified as Russian-language media operating in Georgia.

“Imedi and Post TV were sanctioned not as two Georgian television stations, but as representatives of the Russian side. Today they are classified as Russian-language media operating in Georgian,” he said.

Badridze also stressed the real-world impact of British and American sanctions.

“Those who now claim sanctions have no effect previously insisted that sanctions would not happen. British and American measures carry the greatest weight in global business and finance. Any organization connected to the UK or its financial sector will face problems, whether in advertising or banking,” he added.
