A senior Georgian Dream MP has highlighted the recent resignation of Lithuania’s government over a corruption scandal, contrasting it with continued demands for the Georgian government to step down.

Giorgi Chakvetadze, First Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, used a social media post to mock critics of the ruling party, particularly the Lithuanian government.

“They were calling for our resignation, and yet it’s the Lithuanian government that actually resigned over a corruption scandal,” Chakvetadze wrote on Facebook. “It’s like the UNM’s elections - every time they demand snap elections, they end up holding one within their own party.”

The MP’s comment came shortly after Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas announced his resignation following revelations about business ties to a company owned by his sister-in-law. In a statement, Paluckas said his “past mistakes” had hindered the government’s work, prompting his “quick and confident decision” to step down.
