Abkhazia Government Chair stresses unity, peace and return in New Year message

Giorgi Jincharadze, Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, delivered a New Year address on Wednesday, stressing unity, hope and the firm belief in returning to the Russian-occupied Georgian region of Abkhazia, as displaced families mark their 33rd New Year away from home.

In his congratulatory message, Jinchradze extended New Year wishes to all citizens, with special warmth toward internally displaced persons and residents living in the occupied territories.

“May the coming year bring hope, faith, unity and prosperity to our country. For the 33rd New Year we are meeting far from our homes, but we are united by the firm belief that we will rebuild every broken bridge and return to Abkhazia,” he said.

Jinchradze stressed that despite ongoing challenges, a consistent commitment to peace, trust and dialogue remains essential. He said protecting the interests and needs of citizens living on both sides of the Enguri River and supporting historical unity remains a priority.

He noted that in 2026, the Government will continue prioritising healthcare, education, culture, economic development, strengthening Georgian-Abkhaz relations and advancing reconciliation-based dialogue.

Jinchradze thanked Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for his support of projects aimed at assisting displaced persons. He also highlighted the importance of reducing polarisation, promoting trust and maintaining direct communication with the population living in Abkhazia.

“With faith in peace and a brighter future, I once again congratulate you on the New Year and wish everyone health, strength, prosperity and the day when we return to our land - to our Abkhazia,” Jinchradze said.
