Chair of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Giorgi Jincharadze, on Wednesday announced a package of social support measures for internally displaced and socially vulnerable families ahead of the New Year.

Speaking live on Imedi TV, Jincharadze said the Government aimed to demonstrate solidarity with the most vulnerable groups during the holiday period. As part of the initiative, internally displaced families living in Potskhoetseri will receive ₾500 ($186.30) electricity vouchers, while up to 200 socially vulnerable IDP families across the country will also be provided with ₾500 vouchers.

In addition, with the support of Tbilisi City Hall, more than 2,000 families will receive New Year food packages. Jincharadze added ministers and Government officials, including himself, would personally visit beneficiary families to deliver the assistance and extend holiday greetings.

Jincharadze highlighted that families living in Potskhoetseri remain under special care, noting that they were forcibly relocated there in previous years and continue to face harsh living conditions. He said targeted assistance for these families was a priority for the Government.

Jincharadze also highlighted broader plans for the coming year, stating that the overall budget for 2026 had increased by 30 percent, while funding allocated specifically to social programmes had nearly doubled. He said this would allow the Government to expand assistance in healthcare, education, reconciliation and social support, ensuring more tangible benefits for displaced families nationwide.
