Giorgi Jincharadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, has pledged increased support for internally displaced persons (IDPs) during a visit to a settlement in Zugdidi, western Georgia, on Monday, where hundreds of families displaced by the conflict in Abkhazia have resided for decades.

Accompanied by the State Representative of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region, Davit Verava, and local government officials, Jincharadze visited the Laghidze Street settlement to meet with residents and hear firsthand about their ongoing challenges.

“We met with the IDPs in Zugdidi, where we listened to their problems, needs and existing challenges,” Jincharadze said. “The Abkhazian government will study the situation and respond to the issues in an appropriate and timely manner.”

He emphasized that supporting displaced communities remained a top priority for his office.

“In the future, we will try to go to each compact settlement, meet with the IDPs, listen to their needs and try to solve all the main problems,” he added.

Jincharadze also highlighted existing state programmes in healthcare, education, and social protection that are available to all citizens displaced from Abkhazia. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the socio-economic conditions of displaced persons, many of whom have faced long-term uncertainty and limited access to services since fleeing the region during the early 1990s conflict.
