Giorgi Shinjikashvili, the First Deputy State Governor of Georgia’s Kvemo Kartli region, has resigned from his post, according to a statement he published on Facebook.
While Shinjikashvili said the resignation was a personal decision, he did not disclose the reasons behind it. His departure follows months of media reports alleging internal conflict between him and Zviad Kharazishvili, a high-ranking official at the State Security Service (SSS), widely known by his nickname Khareba.
“After four years of service, I am stepping down by personal decision,” Shinjikashvili wrote. “I thank each municipality for their responsible work, all public servants for their friendship and honorable service to the country. I remain, as always, in service to my country and nation.”
For nearly a year, Georgian media outlets have reported on an alleged power struggle between Shinjikashvili and Kharazishvili in the Kvemo Kartli region. These reports have also included claims of retaliatory actions involving allies of both figures.
