Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the opposition party Strategy Aghmashenebeli, has urged Georgia's “pro-European forces” to launch “immediate consultations” for the creation of a unified resistance centre aimed at challenging the dominance of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the ruling party’s founder and former prime minister.
In a social media post on Monday, Vashadze endorsed an earlier initiative by Zurab Girchi Japaridze, calling for a coordinated opposition effort and a common political platform.
“I fully share Japaridze’s views on unity and the continuation of our common struggle. Georgia will not succeed without unification,” Vashadze wrote.
He argued that Ivanishvili’s “Russian-style autocracy” was fighting for its survival and warned that unless the opposition presented a credible alternative, the country risked “prolonged governance by a regime” he described as damaging to Georgia's democratic future.
“The public is waiting for real action, not more talk. We must move from words to deeds,” Vashadze said, adding that an eight-point plan for unification was already in place and should be followed.
Calling on all pro-Western parties, civic movements, and protest groups, Vashadze proposed the formation of a United Resistance Centre, which he described as a platform that would offer not only a shared political brand but a joint front against Ivanishvili’s rule.
“This is what the people demand - not a superficial alliance, but a real, strong, and effective alternative,” he said. “If not now, then when?”
